Negotiating and Influencing

The ability to positively influence and negotiate effectively is present in all organisations. As Local Government has changed so has the need for people to be skilled in these areas. Many people are involved in facilitating other bodies and organisations in areas such as community and economic development. Partnerships with other public service agencies are increasing and a contract culture is evolving. 

The emphasis of the course is on positive and assertive influence and negotiation rather than simply being more aggressive. The outcome should be that both parties benefit from agreeing a mutually acceptable course of action.
