Supporting a Work Force Planning Strategy
|
Grosvenor have been working with a large Metropolitan Authority to support there efforts to engage managers in workforce and succession planning strategy. Whilst in house teams and specialist consultants worked to create the organisations strategic framework and manpower plan our role was to create and run workshops that gave managers the motivation and skill to put the plan into action and to take ownership of their own serviced based issues and future scenarios. |
The development of the workshop was dependent on building strong links and fully understanding the other interventions which we had to dovetail with.
The challenge was to bring this alive but to have people going away committed to taking action to ensure capacity into the future.
Because we were limited to one day we used a pre-workshop work approach which meant that participants became fully aware of the organisational strategy and started to consider their local issues.
Outcomes
• To ensure managers are clear about their role in respect of workforce and succession planning and what this means in practical terms
• To gain a real commitment to engaging in workforce and succession planning in their service area
• To be clear about the linkage with other business planning processes and the relationship between performance and capacity
• To be able to use a range of strategies and tools in the process of workforce and succession planning particularly those things that already exist as part of the managers role (eg The PPD process)
• To have considered a range of future scenarios and the impact on their service
One of our team worked with a Head of Democratic Services to identify and develop solutions to a range of performance management and relationship issues in the management team.
All in all 5 coaching sessions were needed in this instance. Initially to identify the coaching goal and then 3 sessions relating to each specific issues followed by a follow up and review.
This is typical of Executive Coaching at this level and required a high degree of trust and integrity between client and coach.
Our coaching team are experienced and qualified coaches who can employ a range of approaches and receive regular supervision to maintain the highest professional standards.
What the client said
“Although sceptical about the approach at first this type of coaching really focussed me and helped me to sort things out. The performance of the management team has significantly improved”.
